| Description | The Custodian position is a Civil Service Competitive position. In addition to various cleaning duties, the Custodian will also complete tasks as requested by the supervisor in an effort to assist as the District carries out the Board of Education goals, mission and vision as well as New York State initiatives.
Scope of Responsibilities:
- Dust shelves, furniture, blinds, walls, light fixtures, etc.
- Sweeps floors, polishes furniture, hardware, etc.
- Washes or scrubs windows, furniture, walls, etc.
- Mops floors, vacuums rugs, etc.
- Empty wastepaper baskets, waste carts, dispensers, etc.
- Replenishes supplies such as soap, toilet paper, paper towels, etc.
- Arranges and adjusts light furniture, books, fixtures, etc.
- Disinfects lavatory fixtures, drinking fountains etc.
- Unplugging toilets, traps and sinks
- Replace faucet washers, repair and adjust flush valves
- Transports trash to outdoor dumpsters, etc.
- Secures rooms/ areas (lights, doors, windows etc.)
- Lock or unlock and/ or secure building as directed.
- Repair windows, screens, desks, doors, etc.
- Replaces bulbs, filters, motor belts, etc.
- Replaces blown fuses, switches, outlets, ballasts, light fixtures etc.
- Services boilers, fans, unit vents, motors, pumps, etc.
- Shovel snow
- Operate machines (washers and dryers in laundry operation, scrubbers, snow blowers, compactors, wet-dry vacuum cleaners, etc.)
- Operate landscaping equipment (mowers, trimmers, etc.)
- Monitors boilers, environmental controls, etc.
- Responsible for operation of HVAC computer and fire panel
- Climbs ladders, scaffold, air lift, etc.
- Pool maintenance and Cleaning
- Responsible for reporting safety issues
- May be required to act in a supervisory capacity at times
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor
Minimum/Preferred Qualifications:
As specified by Erie County Department of Personnel/Civil Service
