Scope of Responsibilities:

• Able to relate to children of differing ages or cognitive level as well as with students with special needs. 
•  Communicate school bus ridership rules and maintain orderly behavior and assist students while on the bus. 
•  Assist driver in safe loading and unloading of students; training students in proper crossing techniques in cooperation with the driver. 
•  Physically assist children on and off the bus as necessary.
•  Ensure all students who require specialized securement are properly secured in a 5-point harness, safety vest, or appropriate mobility device during transport.
•  Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others. 
•  Be willing to communicate with classroom aides, teachers, principals, and parents concerning student behavior as appropriate. 
•  Maintain current knowledge of Emergency Evacuation procedures. 
•  Able to assist driver in thorough pre-trip, post-trip inspection, checking the bus for items left behind and sleeping students.  

Minimum/Preferred Qualifications:

• As specified by New York State Department of Education
